Fewer Drive * USA - Commutes Speed Up as
Chicago,ILL,USA -The Wall Street Journal, by Douglas Belkin -28 April 2009: -- According to recent data from the U.S. Department of Transportation, miles driven by Americans has been on the decline since 2007, and in January and February 2009, Americans drove 8.6 billion fewer miles than they did during those same months in 2008... Inrix, a Washington company that measures traffic patterns, reports that rush-hour traffic declined 29 percent last year in the 100 largest U.S. markets... Moreover, reports indicate that the regions most impacted by the housing crunch saw average travel times drop 10 percent... There are fewer road construction projects tying up traffic as well...
