* Miami-Dade, Broward to launch extended cross-county bus service
Miami,FL,USA -The Miami Herald, by ALFONSO CHARDY -13 May 2009: -- A long-standing dream of South Florida transit planners is about to become reality... Starting in January, Broward County Transit and Miami-Dade Transit will launch the first full-fledged regional bus service between the two neighboring counties, adding buses that will connect downtown Miami with communities in North and Central Broward... It will be the first time the transit agencies will operate bus service that truly goes deep into the neighboring county... Expansion of the regional services will seek to attract thousands of commuters who live in Broward and work in Miami-Dade and vice versa... * Buses on the shoulder: Bill poised for passage
Austin,TX,USA -The Austin American Statesman, by Ben Wear -May 12, 2009: -- A bill that would allow transit buses to drive on highway shoulders in certain Texas cities (including Austin), on certain roads and under certain circumstances passed the House today and appears close to making it into law... Senate Bill 434 sets up a pilot program in Travis, Bexar and Denton counties. Transit buses in those areas, on specifically designated segments of a few highways, would be able to use the shoulder when the average speed on the regular lanes falls below 35 mph.
