ENDING STRIKE * Canada - Ottawa bus riders celebrate
It's been a nightmare, university student says as arbitration agreement ends 51-day strike
Ottawa,Ontario,Canada -The Toronto Star, by Richard J. Brennan -Jan 31, 2009: -- "It's Over," screamed the front-page headline in the Ottawa Citizen... The longest bus strike – 51 days – in the history of the nation's capital sputtered to an end this week with the threat of federal back-to-work legislation... People actually celebrated in the streets Thursday when news broke that the parties had agreed to binding arbitration – even though it may be another week before OC Transpo buses are again plying the snow-choked streets of Ottawa... As the city looks forward to the resumption of service, the stories of coping are legion and the bitterness shared by commuters and businesses palpable... It's likely to be another week before buses are fully running on streets again, following a long strike)
