* USA - So. Tier transport agencies to get new buses
Southern Tier,N.Y..USA -News 10 Now -February 5, 2009: -- Several Southern Tier transportation agencies will be getting new buses, thanks to a grant from the New York State Department of Transportation... Agencies that transport the elderly and disabled in Schuyler, Allegany, Steuben, and Yates counties will receive a total of about $570,000 to improve their fleets. The state grant covers about 80 percent of the costs for a new bus... A total of 12 buses are expected to be ordered for the region this spring, and will be delivered by the end of the year...
* Uganda - Some Hope as World Bank Funds Bus Plan
Kampala,Uganda -All Africa, by Frank Sserwaniko -4 February 2009: -- The plan to replace commuter taxis with buses in Kampala has got new momentum after the World Bank offered to fund an initial study on efficient city bus operation... The study also estimated that there were about 7,000 commuter taxis operating in the city by 2003, with total seat capacity of 102,000. ... It is estimated that about 1,500 buses would be required to deliver this necessary seat capacity...
* USA - Community Action to buy three buses
NY,USA -The Daily News on Line, by Virginia Kropf -February 5, 2009: -- Community Action of Orleans and Genesee County Wednesday was awarded a $171,892 grant for the purchase of three buses... The news from the State Department of Transportation was "awesome," said Ed Fancher, executive director of Community Action... The DOT's commissioner Astrid C. Glynn announced awarding of $688,625 to purchase 17 buses for Greater Rochester agencies that transport the elderly and disabled...Program funds cover 80 percent of the cost of buses for accepted applicants. Grantees are required to contribute the remaining 20 percent... Buses will be ordered in the spring with deliveries expected to begin before the end of 2009, something Fancher said is very good news...
