NEW BUSES * India - Lal bus's green avatar a hit
Ahmedabad,India -The Times of India, by Kumar Manish -30 Dec 2008: -- The Lal Bus' of Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services (AMTS) is taking on a new avataar... The age-old, rickety, diesel run AMTS buses are giving way to low floored CNG buses fitted with vehicle-tracking system, global positioning system (GPS) and bus conductors who will dispense tickets using a hand-held electronic ticketing machine... Seventy eight buses have been fitted with GPS while 200 more buses are in queue for the same while 150 bus conductors are already using the electronic ticketing machine... And the results are for all to see: currently AMTS is earning Rs 30 lakhs on an average per day which is double the revenue earned by AMTS in year 2003. Number of passengers travelling in AMTS buses have increased manifold since year 1961-62, from 3.78 lakhs to 9.5 lakhs in year 2008...
* Zero-tolerance in buses' maintenance, Delhi officials told
New Delhi,India -India PRWire -30 Dec 2008: -- Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely has directed department officials to follow zero-tolerance in maintenance of new low-floor buses among other measures to provide better services to commuters... Lovely gave this direction after a meeting with all depot managers of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Senior DTC officials and Transport Commissioner R.K. Verma also attended the meeting...
