CONTROLS * India - Erring sleeper coach bus operators under scrutiny
Pune,Maharashtra,India -The Times of India, by Sarang Dastane -4 Jan 2009: -- The Regional Transport office (RTO) and the city traffic police will take joint action against sleeper coach bus operators in the city who ferry assengers in violation of prescribed norms which results in heavy revenue losses to the state exchequer... More than 100 sleeper coach buses ply from the city every day. The other public transport service providers, along with the state-run Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), have also demanded quick action against the erring bus operators... "The sleeper buses carry nearly twice the number of passengers and do not follow guidelines such as putting in an air conditioner and reserving seats for women passengers," said the transport organisations.
