After climbing along with pump prices, the number of riders on city buses remains higher than a year ago despite a drop in the cost of gasoline and a recent increase in bus fares. Most passengers started paying $1, which was 25 cents more, on Sept. 1... Transit officials throughout the United States did heavy marketing to take advantage of motorist frustration over high gasoline costs. The Twin City transit system took part in a nationwide one-day effort in June called Dump the Pump where anyone rode for free. Response in the Twin Cities was good...
