Councils in the Bristol area will soon have the chance to take more control over local bus services and end the 20-year “deregulation disaster”...

Local authorities will be able to take control where there is a “clear public interest” in improving bus services... Under the Joint Local Transport Bill, councils will have the chance to join together and form regional transport authorities with influence over all aspects of local travel... At first glance, the news that Bristol's buses could come back under local authority control is what we have all been waiting for... Could it mean a city bus network not governed by the profit-making priorities of First but with resources placed where they are most needed?...
