Councils in the Bristol area will soon have the chance to take more control over local bus services and end the 20-year “deregulation disaster”... Local authorities will be able to take control where there is a “clear public interest” in improving bus services... At first glance, the news that Bristol's buses could come back under local authority control is what we have all been waiting for... Since the council privatised former Durban Transport in October 2003, the bus service has been plagued by problems; one being that it has failed to maintain its once reputable service to the Durban community... But EW councillor Paula Southgate said setting a date for any switch was premature because the new regional council hadn't even officially talked about the matter...
