BRT * Nigeria - As Lagos Puts New Buses On Road
Lagos,Nigeria -The Daily Trust (Abuja, NIG)/AllAfrica.com (Washington,DC,USA), by Abdulhakeem F. Akinola -17 March 2008: -- The city of Lagos will by this time tomorrow witness the commissioning of the highly publicised new bus system, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) which will enable residents in the mega city particularly workers, not to spend above five minutes at the designated bus stops to be conveyed by the high capacity buses to their destinations... Findings revealed that about 200 units of the high capacity buses were purchased from Marcopolo International Corporation in Brazil. The operation of these buses ought to have commenced in full since 2004 but because there was the need to put all necessary infrastructure in place to avert problems, it was delayed till now...
