San Francisco,CA, USA -The San Francisco Chronicle, by Rachel Gordon -January 30, 2008: -- San Francisco police could ticket drivers who don't yield to buses merging back into traffic after dropping off and picking up passengers under a proposal backed by city transit officials and Mayor Gavin Newsom... In a study of the popular 38-Geary bus route, the San Francisco County Transportation found that 6 percent of travel time was spent waiting to pull back into a traffic lane from the bus stops. While that may not seem like a lot of time, the minutes add up... Not only are bus riders delayed in getting to their destinations, but bus drivers often decide to not pull their coaches all the way into the designated bus stops in order to stay in their traffic lane. That makes other motorists mad and makes it harder for bus passengers to board...
