NEW BUSES * USA - GLTC rolls out hybrid buses
Eight new buses expected to cut costs and improve service were rolled out by the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company this week
Lynchburg,VA,USA -The Lynchburg News and Advance, by Alicia Petska -February 8, 2008: -- ... The buses, which use a hybrid combination of diesel and electric power, were unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday and are now in service along some of the city’s busiest routes... They replace eight older vehicles that will either be auctioned off or could be used along new routes at Liberty University if the college decides to expand that service, said GLTC manager Mike Carroll... Routes for the new buses were chosen in part based on ridership and include some of the city’s busiest, such as 1A and 1B. Their addition is expected to reduce on-road breakdowns and decrease fuel costs, two major problems for the city’s bus system...
