Fast Buses * Canada - To outpace cars

Burnaby,British Columbia, Canada -The Burnaby Newsleader, by Jeff Nagel -Oct 05 2007: -- It’s still six years away, but the province announced key details Friday of a planned Highway 1 express bus service that will run across the twinned Port Mann Bridge... The route would open when the twinned eight-lane bridge does in 2013, forming a major new transit artery that would connect to existing SkyTrain and the planned Evergreen Line to Port Moody and Coquitlam... “Providing rapid bus service across the Port Mann Bridge for the first time means that commuters can travel all the way from Langley to Coquitlam or Burnaby in less than 25 minutes,” Premier Gordon Campbell said... Officials say the express bus will be as fast or faster than car travel because buses will run on a median HOV lane with dedicated off and on ramps, avoiding the need for buses to cross other lanes of traffic to enter or exit the freeway...
