* USA - School district revs up idea of having own bus service
Seattle,WASH,USA -The Seattle Times, by Emily Heffter -Nov 7, 2006: -- The Seattle School Board is considering bringing student bus service in-house — an additional $6 million annual expense that would bring driver salaries and benefits in line with surrounding districts'... The board's Operations Committee will consider the proposal this afternoon... The district has been contracting for bus service since the 1970s, so providing it would mean starting from scratch: hiring about 400 drivers, buying buses and leasing land for a bus barn...

This means for a vehicle to legally be sold for purposes of transporting school-age children, it must be certified as a school bus or a multifunction school activity bus (MFSAB)...

Cork,Ireland -Irish Examiner -7 Nov 2006: -- An extra 200 buses should be purchased and Dublin’s Westlink toll barrier raised at peak times to help struggling commuters, it was claimed today... Fine Gael’s Enda Kenny said there were a number of short-term and long-term measures which should be adopted as a matter of urgency to help ease traffic chaos in Dublin... Some of the measures proposed by the opposition party included the purchase of 200 more buses for Dublin Bus, granting 100 new private operator licences and raising the Westlink Barrier on the M50 at peak hours to ease the traffic flow...
* USA - Broward considers raising taxes to add buses
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -Associated Press/San Jose Mercury News (CA,USA) -8 Nov 2006: -- Broward County voters were being asked Tuesday to raise the county's sales tax by 1 percentage point to improve its mass transit system and lessen gridlock... The measure would increase the sales tax from 6 cents per dollar to 7, and cost the average consumer $45 per year. The plan would spend $4 billion over 25 years to add buses and depots and synchronize traffic lights... Backers, including many of the county's largest businesses, said the measure was needed to alleviate the county's worsening traffic problems...
* Ghana - Parliament approves loans for more MMT buses
