At 10:55 a.m., the Detroit Department of Transportation bus slammed into the rear of a coach from the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation. The windshield on the passenger side of the DDOT bus exploded and smoke began rising from the SMART bus as the stench of leaking fuel filled the air... The driver of the DDOT bus, who was among those seriously injured, was suspended Monday as a matter of protocol pending the outcome of an investigation and a test for alcohol and drug use, said James Canning, a spokesman for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick... * Ecuador - Bus crash kills 47
Quito, Ecuador -El Comercio newspaper/UPI -Sep 25, 2006: -- Nearly four dozen people were killed when a bus crashed outside the Ecuadorian capital, reported Monday... In all, 47 people were killed over the weekend when the bus reportedly flipped over while traveling along a winding mountain road near Quito. Among those killed were 17 children... The passengers were all believed to be family members and close friends who hired the bus for a group trip... Officials said it was the worst auto accident in the country in recent history...
