Sex Offenders - USA - Judge drops ban on, living near bus stops in Georgia
Atlanta,GA,USA -Access North Georgia (Gainesville,GA)/AP -25 July 2006: -- A federal judge dropped a ban Tuesday that blocked Georgia from prohibiting sex offenders from living near school bus stops, a decision that could force many of the state's 11,000 offenders to move... U.S. District Judge Clarence Cooper conceded that his order would result in more "confusion" over the law, which would prevent sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of the stops. And he said he was "deeply troubled" by the law's potential for displacing thousands of offenders... The rest of the law took effect on July 1. It prohibits offenders from living, working or loitering within 1,000 feet of just about anywhere children gather _ including schools, churches, parks, gyms and swimming pools. And it stiffens minimum prison sentences and requires certain offenders to wear electronic monitoring devices...
