High-capacity buses - India - No special roads, but green signal for
200 buses will be released in next six months, will ply on existing roads in city
New Delhi,India -Delhi Newsline, by Shilpa Venkataraman -23 June 2006: -- Work has not even begun on the dedicated corridors for the ambitious High Capacity Bus System (HCBS), but the specially designed low-floor buses are set to hit Delhi roads soon... In fact, six such buses have been operating in the city since November last year. However, since they can only run on wide and levelled roads, they have been restricted to one route... ‘‘We will not wait for the corridors to be constructed. In the next six months, another 200 buses will be released. They will ply on the existing roads,’’ said Anshu Prakash, chairman and managing director of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC)...
