The New York Power Authority has begun construction of a “battery energy storage system” at the MTA’s Garden City facility, promising energy efficiency for MTA’s Long Island bus subsidiary... Presently, 220 MTA Long Island buses are powered by compressed natural gas instead of petrofuels, such as gasoline. The new battery unit will specifically power the energy-hungry compressor required to fuel these CNG buses...
