Court declares BEST strike illegalBombay,India -Mid-Day Mumbai -Apr 21, 2006: -- Around 50 lakh commuters traveling by BEST buses in the city are being inconvenienced today as employees of the Undertaking have gone on an indefinite strike after talks between their union and the BEST committee failed yesterday.... The union is protesting against the management’s decision to block the Dearness Allowance and stop interim relief recommended by the pay revision committee... A.S. Tamboli, BEST’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed this morning that the strike is total. “During the early hours a total of 257 buses from the fleet of 3,400 buses are pressed into service. We can say that today no buses will ply, but it is difficult to say if the strike will be indefinite,” he said...
