Bus safety has improved dramatically since 1994, when a Press of Atlantic City investigation discovered that bus companies often found it cheaper to pay small fines than fix problems... Commercial buses must be formally inspected twice a year. To make sure they stay in shape in between, roving teams of state inspectors go to popular tourist sites for random spot checks...
