Security - UK - Buses 'too unsafe' for 96% of OAPs at night

Glasgow,Scotland,UK -Glasgow Evening Times, by John McCann -Nov 2005: -- Nearly all of Glasgow's pensioners won't use buses at night because they don't feel safe, a new survey says. Compiled by NHS Greater Glasgow, shows 96% of elderly people won't travel by bus after dark... Among the research's findings were: - 70% of people have witnessed drunken disorder on buses or trains. - Drivers accelerate away before passengers can reach a seat. - Drivers don't have time to lower adapted buses for people who have difficulty boarding. - Only 4% of pensioners feel safe on the bus at night. - People in some areas have to take three different buses to get from home to hospital... It also found parents attending toddler groups in the north of the city have to stagger journeys because buses only take two buggies...
