Fraud - UK - Con the buses
Glasgow,Scotland,UK -Glasgow Evening Times, by Alex Robertson -26 Oct 2005: -- Forged bank notes have been used to buy thousands of pounds worth of weekly bus tickets which are then sold on the black market. Around £2000 in fake currency has passed through bus firm First in Glasgow every month since the scam was uncovered in April... Counterfeit cash has been used repeatedly over the summer months to buy weekly tickets... Fake £10, £5 and £1 bank notes have been used to buy the tickets, which are then sold on. On each occasion, the fraudster has placed the forged notes straight into cash machines on First buses travelling through the Petershill Road area... when the driver reported back to the firm's Larkfield Depot, the cash vault was found to contain counterfeit money... Eric Stewart, First in Glasgow managing director, said: "I can confirm we have been monitoring the use of counterfeit currency".
