HYDROGEN BUSES * UK: Second vehicle break down

* Scotland - Embarrassment continues as second Aberdeen hydrogen bus breaks down

-- Transport bosses were left red faced yesterday after another of Europe’s newest hydrogen buses broke down – the second in the space of 24 hours... The first to encounter “technical issues” broke down on Thursday – just a day after the UK’s first hydrogen production and bus refuelling station officially opened in Aberdeen. And yesterday another member of the 10-strong fleet broke down in at a bus stop in the Rosemount area of the city... Stagecoach later confirmed the fault was due to a fuel issue and said it had asked the manufacturer to make checks on the rest of the fleet... Six of the 10 vehicles are operated by Stagecoach on the X17 Aberdeen city centre to Westhill route, while First Group operates four on the X40 Kingswells to Bridge of Don park-and-ride route... On the occasion of the FCH JU Stakeholder Forum, representatives of five major European bus manufacturers (Daimler Buses (EvoBus), MAN, Solaris, Van Hool and VDL Bus and Coach) have signed a joint Letter of Understanding at the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking's (FCH JU) Stakeholders Forum in Brussels. The Letter underlines the commitment of bus manufacturers towards the commercialisation and market introduction of fuel cell electric buses in urban public transport. Fuel cell buses run on hydrogen and constitute a zero emissions transport alternative...

Detroit,Mich,USA -Transportation and Fuel Source -17 March 2008: -- Ford Motor Company and US Congressman John Dingell and the Wayne County Airport Authority today announced the delivery of two hydrogen-fueled Ford E-450 shuttle buses to be used for transporting airline passengers between terminals at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)... Today’s delivery is the result of a partnership involving Ford, the Wayne County Airport Authority and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG)...

Charlottetown,Prince Edward Island,Canada -CBC Prince Edward Island -November 30, 2007: -- Two new hydrogen-fuelled buses will soon start shuttling passengers around Charlottetown... The buses, part of a Canada-wide pilot project, were announced Friday by representatives of the federal and provincial governments. The Ford vehicles will carry 12 passengers each and run on a hydrogen combustion engine, producing no hydrocarbon waste or greenhouse gases... * Canada - Ottawa launches hydrogen-powered buses

Ottawa,ONT,CAN -Platinum Today (UK) -19 October 2007: -- Three hydrogen-powered shuttle buses have been unveiled in Ottawa as part of a drive to increase clean energy use... Air Liquide Canada has established the first permanent hydrogen fuelling station in the city and non-profit organisation ATFCAN helped to develop the three hydrogen-powered Ford 450 shuttle buses... The moves form part of the Hydrogen on the Hill project that is aiming to publicise and promote the use of hydrogen fuel and fuel cell technology as a legitimate alternative to petrol-powered vehicles... Hydrogen Buses * Canada - British Columbia Gets 20 New Ones

BC Transit has been awarded a contract to produce 20 hydrogen buses

Victoria,BC,CAN -Hydrogen Cars Now, by Hydro Kevin (California,USA) -21 Aug 2007: -- These hybrid electric fuel cell buses will help the province cut greenhouse gases by the target of 33-percent by the year 2020... The $46.4 million contract was presented to New Flyer Industries of Winnipeg. The hydrogen buses are expected to last for 20 years, have a top speed of 55 mph and a range of 300 miles. These same hydrogen buses are expected to be a large part of the hydrogen transportation system showcased during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.. The buses will be part of the British Columbia Hydrogen Highway system that is being built from Victoria to Whistler that also includes Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and Squamish... * Belgium - Hybrid Hydrogen Buses Hit the Road

Antwerp, Belgium -Gas News/the GasTips.com (USA), by Splash-n-Dash -August 8, 2007: -- A consortium of companies have come together to put hydrogen hybrid buses on two routes in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. That’s one more step forward for viable hydrogen cars, and one step back from the perils of peak oil... The main distinction between this hybrid bus and conventional fuel cell buses is that any excess electrical energy generated by the hydrogen fuel cell in the hybrid bus can be stored in batteries - meaning it can run on less fuel than those running solely on hydrogen... Backers of the project include the Flemish government, UTC Power - which supplied the fuel cell - Siemens, IWT-Vlaanderen, Air Liquide and De Lijn...

Hidrogened Buses * USA - Hydrogen-Fueled Buses Fleet Arrive in Orlando

Florida's only hydrogen station opened Wednesday for the first U.S. fleet of Ford shuttle buses powered by the alternative fuel, testing a technology that can lower greenhouse gases

Orlando,FL,USA -AP -May 23, 2007: -- Eight Ford Motor Co. shuttle buses will ferry customers, tourists and employees at Orlando International Airport, the Orange County Convention Center and other tourist spots throughout central Florida... Florida has four of the 12-passenger vehicles from Ford now and will receive four more of the Ford E-450 buses later... The state is paying $250,000 each for the $1 million-plus vehicles... The commercial shuttle buses can travel 150 to 200 miles before refueling. The shuttles get five to 10 miles per gallon, equivalent to the mileage of diesel powered buses, said Nick Twork, Ford technology spokesman... One of the hydrogen-fueled buses releases about 1 percent of the carbon dioxide released by a Toyota Prius, a gasoline-electric hybrid... Ford delivered five of the buses to Canada in 2006. The company plans to deliver 30 of the buses throughout North America by the end of the year...
