SURVEY * USA - Thrifty travelers opt for buses, trains

New York,NY,USA -Reuters -June 29, 2007: -- More Americans will stream into subway trains and buses when vacationing in U.S. cities this summer, according to an American Public Transportation Association survey released Friday... Some 28 percent of public-transit users said they will be more likely to use buses and trains while visiting a city this year than last year, according to the survey of 33,000 adults, with saving money the primary reason...

Survey * Singapore - Public transport satisfactory

Singapore -Australasian Bus News (Australia) -5 April 2007: -- Eighty percent of Singapore’s commuters say public transport services in Singapore were "satisfactory"... Of the 1,000 public transport users polled in a recent survey conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), 94 percent say the level of train services satisfied them... Buses got a lower rating - only 77 percent say they were satisfied. According to LTA, the main reason for this is because the trains enjoy a dedicated right of way...

* Italy - Rome’s buses get thumbs down.

Rome,Italy -Wanted in Rome -20 Feb 2007: -- Rome’s buses and trams were dirtier, in a more dilapidated state and less regular compared to last summer, according to a survey conducted by the local public service agency, for the period 18 September to 7 December 2006... 29.7 per cent were found to be strewn with litter against 15.3 last summer, while 52.6 per cent had graffiti on the walls and seats compared to 30.4 per cent in the previous survey... Passengers had to wait for long periods for a bus, with some 23 per cent of buses running behind schedule, on a par with the results of the previous survey... There was also a 6 per cent increase in the number of obstacles passengers had to face at the bus stop when boarding, such as cars and motorbikes blocking the way... Although in 75 per cent of the cases there were available seats for passengers this was less than when the survey was last conducted, when seats were available 80 per cent of the time...

Survey * USA - New York City buses running late

A survey by the New York City Transit Rider Council found buses are an average of 5 minutes and 15 seconds behind their published schedules... Many of the delays are caused by "bunching," when one, two, or even three buses arrive at the same stop almost simultaneously, the survey concluded...
