* Colombia - SCANIA delivering 295 city buses to Bogotá

Bogotá,Colombia -Busworld -17 Nov 2011: -- Scania has received an order for 295 bus chassis from the Colombian cooperative Coobus, one of the operators responsible for the public transport system in Bogotá. The buses will be delivered during 2012 and 2013 and will be put into service on new routes in the capital city’s TransMilenio bus transport system... Bogotá has one of the world’s most highly developed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, with 1,400 articulated buses in service, of which more than 200 have been delivered by Scania to date... Scania’s delivery to Bogotá consists of 277 two-axle city bus chassis with 250 hp engines and 18 three-axle articulated bus chassis with 310 hp engines. The buses will be bodyworked in Colombia by the Brazilian bus manufacturer Marcopolo...

* India - ASHOK LEYLAND to supply 700 CNG buses to Delhi

* USA - Alcoa Develops New All-Aluminum Design for New BYD Electric Bus

New York,NY,USA -Business Wires/ALCOA (PR) -November 10, 2011: -- Alcoa today announced it has developed a new all-aluminum space frame and bus design for BYD that has reduced the weight of the new BYD Electric Bus body by 40 percent, or nearly one ton, versus steel options. The first two BYD Electric Bus prototypes were launched this week in Changsha City, Hunan Province, China... In addition to reducing the weight of the bus body, Alcoa solutions including Alcoa forged wheels and Huck Spin® fasteners reduced the overall bus weight by 1.2 tons in total. The combined weight savings are expected to help improve the overall range of the electric bus by at least 10 percent. The new bus has a range of approximately 300 kilometers (188 miles) on a full charge...

* UK - London Starts experiments with Wireless Charging for Buses

The pre-commercial trial is expected to start in early 2012 and will involve as many as 50 electric vehicles (EVs). The trial will use Qualcomm wireless inductive power transfer technology that enables high-efficiency power transfer across a large air gap... It is very easy to use: the driver simply parks the vehicle in the usual way and the system automatically aligns for power transfer, making parking easier and charging hassle free...

* China - COSLIGHT to produce pure electric buses within two years

Hong Kong,China -Busworld -22 Nov 2011: -- The Hong Kong-listed battery manufacturer Coslight Technology International Group Co., Ltd. (Coslight) intends to produce pure electric buses within two years, revealed Coslight chairman Song Dianquan recently. With the production lines in its Harbin base expanded, the annual battery production capacity will increase to 400,000 kWh... The company’s lithium-ion battery life can reach seven years, according to Coslight, and is rechargeable till up to 3,000 times. Vehicles equipped with these batteries can reach a speed up to 120 km/h... According to Song, there are eight auto manufacturers that have applied the lithium-ion batteries it developed for electric vans, and the company has signed agreements with Chongqing Hengtong Bus and GAC to provide 34 lithium-ion battery systems for the two Chinese automakers. The company expects to double sales revenue of the lithium-ion batteries...
