SAFETY SCHOOL BUSES * USA - Cameras reduce bus bullying
DECLINE IN INCIDENTS: Footage is reviewed whenever a complaint is filed
Watertown City,NY,USA -The Water Town Daily Times, by JAMIE MUNKS -February 6, 2011: -- An overhaul of cameras on school buses is making it easier for administrators to crack down on bullying on the bus..."Damage to rear seats, smoking, we've caught all sorts of things on these buses," Louis J. Peto, transportation director for Freeman Bus Corp., said at a Watertown City School District Board of Education meeting Tuesday. "On a daily basis, we're looking at footage on buses — whenever we get a phone call about an incident" ... When a parent, student or driver files a complaint, Mr. Peto reviews the footage. Most of the time, it's shared with a school district transportation official or an administrator for disciplinary reasons... The cameras have helped in catching miscreants and reducing incidents on buses, said Robert C. Freeman III, president of Freeman Bus...
