Mindanao,Philippines -The Mindanao Times, by Escovilla, Joel B. -7 October 2010:   ... in place of a mass rail transit which will not only limit the other mode of transportation that can be more economically viable given the limited resources available... City Planning Officer, Roberto P. Alabado III, said the modern transit scheme will eventually replace the jeepney, which proved to be an inadequate mass transportation system. The city government can encourage people to utilize the buses by making it expensive for private vehicle owners to go to the downtown area... He said the city can duplicate what Curitiba City in Brazil is doing with its transport system, assigning dedicated network of roads for busways that ensures exact time of departure and arrival as well as prevent gridlock... Manila,Philippines -Bulatlat, by MARYA SALAMAT -October 9, 2010: -- For the bigger bus companies plying the provincial routes to and from the National Capital Region, safety appears important enough that their regular drivers and conductors are given periodic trainings on road and driving safety. The regularity ranges from monthly to quarterly to twice a year. According to some provincial bus drivers and conductors interviewed by Bulatlat, their buses are also usually checked first by their mechanics at the terminal... If something untoward happens to their trip, it can be largely attributed to the overall condition of the driver or of the bus. Rolando Mejia, 49, a driver of a so-called “deluxe” bus that ply the Baguio-Manila route said the physical condition of the bus driver and the running condition of the bus he’s driving are the two leading factors to consider in ensuring safety of travel...
