BRT * USA - East Side bus riders get a little curbside service with express ride
New York: A new, faster East Side bus service started Sunday
New York,NY,USA -The New York Daily News, by Erin Durkin -October 11 2010: ... Riders have to pay on the curb before boarding the new Select Bus Service, which travels in red-painted bus-only lanes from Houston to 125th St... The bus, which replaces the M15 Limited, is the second Select Bus Service route in the city, joining the Bx12 along Fordham Road in the Bronx... The city plans to use cameras to catch and ticket drivers illegally using the bus lane... And starting next year, special sensors on the buses will prompt traffic lights to stay green longer or turn green sooner to give the buses priority... Once all those changes are in place, officials expect rides on the route to be 20% faster. It now takes 90 minutes to get from South Ferry to East Harlem on the M15... Bloomberg said more transit improvements like SBS would be possible if the state adopted his congestion pricing plan, shot down by the legislature in 2008... The bus service works on an honor system, with riders showing fare inspectors receipts if asked...
