Lost-and-found goods * India - Left your umbrella in the bus? Call MTC

Jeeva,Nagar South,Tamil Nadu,India -Times of India -Mar 25, 2010: -- Last week, a 30-year old woman who was travelling in a Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus on the Minjur-Pazhaverkadu route, realised her two daughters, aged 8 and 7, were left behind when she got down... The panic-stricken woman, Manjula, called the MTC headquarters at Pallavan House on Anna Salai and pleaded with officials to bring back her children. Her grievance was promptly addressed and she got back her daughters within a couple of hours, thanks to the Global Positioning System (GPS) installed in the bus... In a similar incident early this month, a college girl misplaced a file containing her certificates while she alighted at Redhills from a Karanodai-Broadway route MTC bus... The girl hurriedly contacted the time-keeper at the Redhills terminus who conveyed the complaint to the head office. The officials spoke to the driver of the bus and came to know that the file was there on the seat where the girl was travelling. Sujatha was asked to wait at Redhills and the file was handed over to her when the bus came back on the same route after one-and-a-half hour... Presently, the transport corporation has GPS in 550 out of the 3,300 buses. Process is on to install the system in another 1,000 buses...
