The Pupil Transportation Association says motorists pass stopped school buses at least 50-thousand times each day in New York State

The New York Association for Pupil Transportation and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee held a news conference Monday in Canandaigua. They're testing a license plate scanner on a Canandaigua City School District bus that captures the license plate number of any car that tries to pass when the bus is picking up or dropping off students... The license plate reader is the same one police cruisers use to check license numbers on the streets. It will be on the bus in Canandaigua and two others in downstate school districts for the rest of the year... This is a federally-funded test. Supporters hope to get the license plate readers on school buses statewide someday...
