BUSES' PURCHASE PROSPECTS * USA & Canada - DPS To Get 11 New Buses
Durham,NC,USA -NBC17, by Paul Matadeen -Feb. 12, 2009: -- Durham Public schools is on its way to getting 11 replacement school buses, and the money for the buses is coming from the state... This year, district documents show the school system is eligible for the 11 buses... According to those documents, the District will finance the purchase, "...but the State of North Carolina is obligated to make all payments"... The total cost for the new buses is $861,348.83... No timeline has been released for the new purchases...
* Canada - Transit drivers ask province for 500 new Metro Vancouver buses
Vancouver,BC,Canada -CBC -February 15, 2009: -- Vancouver transit drivers are calling on the provincial government to provide funding for 500 new buses in the upcoming provincial budget... Members of Canadian Auto Workers Local 111, which represents 3,200 bus drivers in Metro Vancouver, said in a written statement Sunday that the need to restore adequate bus service is more urgent than ever... The government has already recognized the need for more buses in 2008's BC Transportation Plan, the statement said, but it needs to speed up implementation by providing TransLink with more funding for new buses...
