BUSMAKERS' NEWS * USA - San Jose may get bus maker
San Jose,Silicon Valley,CAL,USA -The San Jose Business Journal, by Lisa Sibley -January 26, 2009: -- A hybrid bus company wants to open a manufacturing facility in San Jose... Officials in San Jose’s Electronic Transportation Development Center as well as Mayor Chuck Reed support the proposed move by Proterra LLC of Golden, Colo., but city officials are also looking at other green companies that could benefit the region’s growing cleantech sector... Proterra and its partners design, develop and manufacture hybrid-electric, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric, zero-emission buses and vans that can be used as transit, school and commercial buses... Proterra CEO Dale Hill said the company plans to unveil a prototype bus, developed through a public-private partnership, at an event tentatively set for Feb. 6 at San Jose City Hall... The vehicle — with a lightweight body composition, lithium titanate battery packs and a solar roof array — could save approximately 11 million gallons or $45 million, in fuel annually for large-scale users such as the San Jose Unified School District or Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
