London,UK -The Telegraph, by David Millward -26 March 2008: -- Threatened rural bus services could be saved under plans unveiled by ministers... The changes, contained in the Local Transport Bill, will give councils the power to dictate services to bus operators... The proposals, which will affect the three million passengers who are estimated to use buses outside London each day, are an attempt to impose order on an industry that was deregulated in the 1980s... One key move will give councils the right to demand "quality contracts" from local operators if they fail to reach an amicable agreement...
