MAINTENANCE * Australia - New brakes for buses - but no investigation

Sydney,New South Wales,Australia -The Sydney Morning Herald, by Linton Besser -March 26, 2008: -- Handbrakes on 18 State Transit buses have had to be replaced days after an empty bus rolled away and crashed onto live railway tracks at Epping - but the state's transport safety watchdog has dropped its investigation into the incident... An audit by a State Transit mechanic, initially found 20 of 85 buses at the Willoughby depot had a fault and that four had "failed"... The log was compiled in the days after an unattended Scania bus crashed onto the rail line at Epping... The four buses found to have had a failed brake underwent maintenance at the weekend and had a part replaced as a precaution, said a State Transit spokesman, Paul Jackson...
