Perth,Australia -Media Newswire (press release) New York,NY,USA-15 Feb 2008: -- Three new CNG-powered (compressed natural gas) articulated buses, worth about $800,000 each, will be trialled across Perth's northern and southern suburbs for the next three years, servicing high volume routes and special events. Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said one of the buses, a Scania, was the first of its kind in the country and was already providing a better quality of service to commuters along Perth's busiest routes... The new buses: cost about $800,000 each; are each 18m long and 2.5m wide; have a top speed of 95km/h; can journey approximately 400km on a tank of fuel; and hold approximately 1,500 litres of gas.The Scania has an 8.9-litre engine and is rated at 300hp. Among the 1,070 Transperth buses operating throughout the metropolitan area, 329 are gas powered and 102 are articulated...
