NEW BUSES PROSPECTS * USA - CTA wants new hybrid buses as cuts loom

Chicago,Ill,USA -The Chicago Sun Times, by MONIFA THOMAS -December 13, 2007: -- At the same meeting at which officials discussed heavy job cuts that will come next month without new state funding, the Chicago Transit Authority announced Wednesday that it is exploring the idea of leasing 150 new hybrid buses to replace the oldest vehicles in its fleet... The 12-year-lease of buses from New Flyer Industries would come at an annual cost of $13.2 million... But the CTA expects to save nearly $7 million a year in fuel, labor and maintenance costs, since the buses would replace vehicles that are at least 12 years old and past their useful life...
