Scotland,UK -The Scotsman, by ALASTAIR JAMIESON -30 Oct 2007: -- When transport giant Stagecoach unveiled a luxury bus featuring hand-stitched leather seats, soft interior fabrics and specially trained drivers, the only question was which route would benefit from such a high standard of service... The answer, of course, is the route which serves the home of the company's entrepreneurial chief executive, Brian Souter... The new "Goldline" service, to be introduced to the No 7 commuter route in Perth, aims to tempt motorists on to public transport by providing the same comfort and reliability they would expect from their own cars...
Among those to enjoy the £1 million fleet of environmentally sensitive single-deckers, fitted with CCTV and spot lighting, will be residents in west Perth, including Mr Souter, who often uses buses to get to the city centre or to his company's headquarters in Dunkeld Road... But a spokesman for the firm insisted the fact that the multi-millionaire was among likely users of the trial service was "totally irrelevant". He said the Goldline buses were part of a pilot scheme to test the idea to see if it would work in other UK towns and cities...
