Detroit,Mich,USA -The Detroit News -April 07, 2007: -- For 30 years, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has debated whether seat belts should be required on commercial buses. There really is no debate. Bus travel is the safest way to travel, federal officials say. Despite occasional crashes that garner wide media attention, serious accidents are few and far between. On average, 23 people die in commercial bus accidents each year. Forcing commercial carriers to install seat belts won't likely have much impact on reducing that number, especially since there's no guarantee people would even use them...
