Buses safe * UK – Despite latest crime figures
London,UK -Ealing Times -1 April 2007: -- Transport for London (TfL) and the Police have declared London buses safe, despite new figures released on the number of rapes and other sexual crimes committed on the bus network... Some 175 rapes and other crimes of a sexual nature took place on buses, at or near bus stops, or were reported by bus drivers in 2005/6, according to figures released by the Metropolitan Police... Transport Operational Command Unit (TOCU), has 1,200 uniformed members which specifically target crime on the network, focussing particularly on routes with high crime levels... CCTV is also installed on all London buses, and bus drivers can request instant help through a call to the 24-hour TfL control centre...
