* USA - Committee recommends pilot study for 10 buses with seat belts

Montgomery,AL,USA -WAFF (Huntsville,AL), by Nick Kenney -March 1, 2007: -- The Governor-appointed committee considering whether or not school buses should have seat belts has released its recommendations... The committee is recommending:
1.) That Alabama fund a pilot study on 10 new buses with seat belts and conduct research on its effect on bus safety.
2.) That Gov. Bob Riley use his influence to encourage other states in bus safety efforts and track the results...
The committee also opposes retrofitting all of the state's fleet of school buses with seat belts, saying the seating capacity could be reduced and structural safety of the buses could be damaged...
