UK - Removing buses from suburbs would deprive many of service
Edgware,England,UK -Edgware Times, by Brian Cooke, chairman, London TravelWatch formerly London Transport Users' Committee -14 July 2006: -- It is very disappointing that Councillor Brian Coleman is suggesting buses shouldn't serve residential roads' because such roads were not designed to take buses' (It's madness to send buses down residential roads', July 6). Is he suggesting we restrict roads to the use for which many were designed the horse and cart?.. Residential or otherwise, the primary purpose of roads is to serve as public highways. Parking on them is a privilege, not a right, and must not be allowed to obstruct moving traffic... A road which is too crowded for buses to use will also be inaccessible to delivery vehicles and emergency services surely not a situation which any responsible councillor could condone?...
