Fire - USA - Probers check on potential for bus disaster
New York,NY,USA -New York Daily News, by Pete Donohue -Jan 19, 2006: -- A rise in the number of potentially disastrous bus fires has prompted state investigators to launch a multiyear review to better identify trends and causes... The number of public bus blazes statewide has more than doubled in recent years - from 16 in 2002 to 34 in 2004, according to the state Transportation Department... The state Public Transportation Safety Board has directed staffers to review data from the Transit Authority, other MTA subsidiaries and other state-funded bus operators going back three or so years... The buses involved are 45-foot rigs built by Motor Coach Industries Inc., and an advisory of the potential problem has been sent to bus operators across the state, the board said...
