Vancouver,Canada -After Gutenberg (USA) -24 Dec 2005: -- After a researcher at the University of Connecticut indicated that a standard diesel transit bus did better than a similar transit bus with a parallel hybrid diesel drivetrain, I have been watching for a decision by TransLink, the transit agency for the greater Vancouver, British Columbia area... In September Green Car Congress had reported that the Vancouver transit company was running a set of concurrent tests with hybrid, CNG and B20 biodiesel buses to determine the most suitable and cost-effective technology for the region... Increasingly, vendors of compressed natural gas vehicles are positioning CNG as a gateway to hydrogen… As an aside, the Ottawa city council staff who favored diesel-hybrids disputed — for a number of reasons — the premise that CNG buses smooth the pathway to hydrogen. However, they acknowledged that a competition between a diesel-hybrid and a CNG-hybrid bus would be much closer...
