Investigators find no evidence of mechanical trouble
Santa Barbara County, S.Francisco,CAL,USA -San Francisco Chronicle, by Michael Cabanatuan -Nov 2005: -- Investigators probing the deadly crash of a San Francisco-bound Greyhound bus in Santa Barbara County said that they are focusing on the theory that the driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the road... A preliminary investigation of the wreckage found no obvious mechanical troubles with the bus, according to the California Highway Patrol, and weather, road and traffic conditions were good when the bus crashed about 7 a.m. The driver, Samuel Henry Bishop, 63, did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol... Federal regulations intended to prevent fatigue limit drivers to 10-hour shifts behind the wheel, Greyhound spokeswoman Anna Folmnsbee said Greyhound's rules cut that to 9 1/2 hours...
