Facilities - UK - Park-and-ride gets the green light

Scotland,UK - Scotsman, by ALAN RODEN -15 Aug 2005: -- MOTORISTS looking to avoid congestion on city roads are finally set to benefit from two new park-and-ride schemes delayed by Edinburgh's bus strikes... The new services, which will carry commuters from sites at Ingliston and Hermiston to the south-west of the city, are now due to open on September 11... The park-and-ride facilities have cost more than £2 million, and have space for 450 cars at Hermiston and parking for 575 vehicles at Ingliston... When completed next year, it is estimated that the city's park-and-ride network will cut out around 30,000 car journeys every week... As well as the extension of services to the RBS headquarters, a number of extra night buses will be put on... And a Bus Route Development grant will help increase the frequency of some buses, including routes to Midlothian...
