Future Transit * USA - Select Bus Service’s second phase

I’m going to take some time today to talk about some future expansion plans for New York City’s transportation network... Our tale this morning starts in the Bronx with something called Select Bus Service. This program is a joint pilot effort between the MTA and New York City’s Department of Transportation. It features dedicated bus lanes and pre-boarding fare payment systems. It has resulted in a 24 percent decrease in travel times, and passengers along Fordham Road love the service... Next year, as part of this so-called Phase I rollout, Select Bus Service will come to Manhattan. Sections of First and Second Avenues are slated for service...

Cambridgeshire County Council has announced a six week public consultation on plans to reduce or withdraw services

Cambridge,UK -The Cambridge News On Line -15 Aug 2008: -- A £300,000 cut will be made to subsidised bus services, threatening the future of nine routes across the county. Cambridgeshire County Council has announced a six week public consultation on plans to reduce or withdraw services including the X14 Huntingdon - Cambridge Science Park; 196 Waterbeach - Fen Ditton - Cambridge; and 2 Cambridge - Hardwick - Caldecote buses... Rising costs and the need to pump money into other core services such as education and social care have been blamed for the cut... The council subsidises 70 routes, spending £2.77 million a year and the nine services which could be cut are those which scored lowest when transport bosses looked at the average number of passengers, cost per passenger journey, the purpose of the journey and alternative transport available... Metro launches major overhaul of 30s Metrobus line Metro is launching a major overhaul of its busiest and oldest bus line beginning Sunday, June 29. The revamped 30s Metrobus line will include two new limited-stop routes during morning and evening rush hours, two new neighborhood shuttle services and dedicated supervisors stationed along routes to respond quickly to service issues. Restructuring and expanding service on the 30s line will better meet the needs of customers on our busiest bus line, said General Manager John Catoe. Customers can expect faster travel times, less crowding and better supervision to keep the buses on schedule.
