... The bus, of course, is one of the borough's main forms of public transit. We don't have a subway, you see, like the other four boroughs. We do have the Staten Island Railway, a hardly little line. But it only goes up the East Coast of the borough... Given the distances that need to be covered, cabs aren't really a fit for our daily commutes... And some folks simply refuse to face the hell of driving to work off-Island, which also comes with the need to pay for parking on the other side. That's a bridge too far for a lot of us, no pun intended... So we rely on the bus, both local routes and express buses into Manhattan. They're not getting the job done. We need help... Or is this another thing we're just supposed to get used to? Like we're supposed to get used to traffic on the Staten Island Expressway or on our local roads? Like we're supposed to get used to the Island becoming a frozen zone whenever there's a fender-bender on the Gowanus Expressway during the morning rush hour?... How many compromises are commuters expected to make for the privilege of living in their home borough?...

TERROR ATACKS * Israel - REQUESTED BUSES BAN for PALESTINIAN RESIDENT

* Samaria protest: Don't let Palestinians on our buses

-- In wake of terror attacks taking advantage of access to Israeli transport, residents demand answers for their security... Around 300 residents joined MK Oren Hazan (Likud), Samaria Regional District head, Yossi Dagan, and Samaria Chief, Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, in a protest march on Sunday evening, from Ariel Junction to Gitai Avisar Junction down Highway 5... The protest comes in the wake of a stabbing attack last Thursday in which a female soldier was moderately wounded by two Arab terrorists at a bus stop at Ariel Junction; the terrorists were then shot and killed by security forces... Arutz Sheva was on the scene as the protesters demanded that Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud) not give in to international pressure, and ban Palestinian Arab residents of the region from using Israeli buses...

"GOOGLE BUS": A synecdoche for “money flaunting Tech 2.0 oppressors” * USA

* California - SF’S Tech bus problem isn´t about buses: IT’S ABOUT HOUSING !!

-- Last week, the corporate commuter buses of San Francisco started making news again. You’ve probably heard of these luxury—more commonly referred to as “Google Buses”—that ferry tech sector employees from their cushy homes in the city to their cushy jobs in Silicon Valley. They’re provided by companies like Apple, Facebook, Yahoo, Genentech, and, yeah, Google, and are the frequent target of heated (and colorful) protests... The opposition turned out again last week to temporarily block some buses in the city’s Mission neighborhood. This latest flame up was sparked by a review of the shuttles’ operating agreement by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, which was determining how best to go forward with the program while abating the concerns of locals who are outraged at what the buses represent. See, this isn’t just a matter of logistics... The real problem—the reason the protests won’t stop for good anytime soon—is that to many, these private shuttles are the rolling symbol of a class war pitting young, cash-rich tech workers against long-time San Franciscans who are being pushed out of their homes by evictions and out of the city altogether by astronomical rent prices... Unfortunately, it seems the only way to truly resolve the dispute around the shuttle buses is to fix the entire housing/cost of living crisis in San Francisco. Since that’s not going to happen any time soon, the battle for the soul of the city will continue to be fought on many fronts, perhaps nowhere more acrimoniously than the one involving a bunch of WiFi-enabled buses toting scads of tech employees to work every day...

* New York - Take Action: File complaints with NJ Transit Buses

New York, NY,USA -Chekpeds -June 22, 2014: -- Every weekday afternoon our neighborhood is overrun by New Jersey Transit buses: they congest our streets, block our crosswalks, and ruin our quality of life. This problem is not just a nuisance it is a pedestrian safety issue... We have reached out to the NYPD for assistance and have seen little improvement. It’s time for us to take a different approach, and the first step is to begin filing formal complaints with New Jersey Transit. Every time you witness a New Jersey Transit bus creating an unsafe traffic condition file a complaint on the NJT website... Be sure to include the date and time of the incident, the route and bus number, and as much detail as possible, the form also allows you to include an attachment, so take pictures. Keep track of the complaint information in case its needed at a later date. You can log the complaint in NJT page. The more complaints we lodge with New Jersey Transit the stronger our case will be when we request assistance from New Jersey Transit and our elected officials in finally resolving this dangerous situation. So start filing complaints and share this information with your networks...

Stagecoach is cutting back direct services to Edinburgh on Monday leading to claims that some commuters will have to catch three buses to the capital

London,UK -BBC News -24 October 2007: -- Moves to abolish bus services will damage Dunfermline's eastern expansion and increase bridge congestion, according to politicians in Fife... There are fears that will mean people choosing the car over public transport... Stagecoach said the move is part of a major £4.5m investment in extra routes across Fife, which is being welcomed...
