Milwaukee,WI,USA -The Milwaukee Small Business Times -November 10, 2008: -- The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Board today approved a recommendation for a sales tax of up to 0.5 percent in Milwaukee County, Kenosha County and eastern Racine County to pay for the Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee (KRM) commuter rail service and local bus services... The RTA board's vote comes less than a week after Milwaukee County voters approved an advisory referendum to raise the county sales tax by 1 percent and shift the burden of funding for parks, recreation, culture programs, transit services and public safety from the property tax rolls... The RTA's recommendation will now be sent to Gov. Jim Doyle and the state Legislature, which would have to approve any sales tax increase... Labels: fees and taxes

Milwaukee,WI,USA -The Milwaukee Small Business Times -November 6, 2008: -- The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Transit Authority (RTA) plans to vote Monday on a proposal to increase the sales tax in Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee counties by up to 0.5 percent to pay for bus services and for the proposed Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee (KRM) commuter rail system... The sales tax would provide a dedicated funding source for commuter rail and county bus systems. City OKs parking tax raiseBaltimore,MD,USA -The Baltimore Sun, Annie Linskey -September 16, 2008: -- The Baltimore City Council voted yesterday to increase the parking tax and use the expected $4.5 million in revenue to operate a fleet of shuttle buses to ferry people around downtown neighborhoods... Trips in the hybrid shuttles would be free to passengers, with pickups every 10 minutes along three routes. The service is expected to begin in July 2009. Mayor Sheila Dixon's administration proposed the legislation... The tax increase, which takes effect in December, will likely mean a 50-cent increase in the cost of daily parking, and a $5 to $6 rise in monthly parking costs, city officials estimate...Labels: fees and taxes
