"You could call him a hero," Whitfield said. "Who knows how this turns out if he hadn't done what he did."

Buffalo,NY,USA -AP/WGRZ-TV: SEE VIDEO STORY -14 July 2010: -- A transit bus driver is being credited for saving 10 people asleep inside a burning home by pounding on the door. After his heroics, Richard Lucas got back behind the wheel and finished his route... Lucas was driving his Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority bus in South Buffalo around 6:30 a.m. Monday when he noticed smoke coming from the back of a two-family house. He says he stopped the bus, which had passengers aboard, ran to the house and banged on the front door, waking up the people inside... A woman living upstairs with her three children and a teenage nephew, and a man who lived downstairs with his wife and three kids told WGRZ-TV that they all could have died if not for Lucas... After everyone was out, Lucas headed to the next stop on his route... Interim Fire Commissioner Garnell W. Whitfield Jr. said several people called 911 to report the blaze, but he praised Lucas' actions...

HERO'S * Australia - Bus driver saves 37 children after crash in Sydney's south

Only after Ms Harper helped all the children off the bus did she think about herself

Sydney,Australia -The Daily Telegraph, by Rhys Haynes -September 12, 2009: -- Anita Harper was with her "family" when it happened. The oncoming vehicle swerved across two lanes of traffic towards her and the busload of schoolchildren in her care... Ms Harper yanked the steering wheel left and crashed her bus into a rock wall on Heathcote Rd, at Lucas Heights, in Sydney's south... As the busload of screaming schoolchildren looked out the window and realised the enormity of the incident, the protective instincts of Ms Harper, who does not have children of her own, kicked in. Covered in blood from a cut to her head from a flying coin-box, and with a broken ankle, Ms Harper, 67, rescued her kids... She passed each through a window as they cried in terror. All 37 of them... DRIVER HERO... * India - and ... POLITICIANS MISERABLE

He does not for a moment regret his supremely brave act of throwing out a ticking bomb from the bus window and saving over 50 lives, losing his eyesight in the blast that followed seconds later

New Delhi,India -The Hindu -24 Oct 2008: -- Braveheart DTC bus driver awaits 2005 blasts compensation ... But, DTC bus driver Kuldeep Singh does feel hurt that three years later he is made to run from pillar to post to get the promised medical compensation and that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit chooses to "ignore" him... Surviving on a meagre salary of Rs 8,500 that he draws as vehicle examiner at the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Shadipur depot in west Delhi, 36-year-old Singh says life is tough for him, his wife and three-old-year son... Singh said he has visited Hyderabad 11 times so far and spent Rs 250,000 on his treatment. "In February last year, I submitted the bills and after some time I was given a sum of Rs 63,000. Since then, no further payment has been made to me. Whenever I ask the government officials, they say my file is moving"... "I even went to meet Dikisht along with my wife and two other people demanding the compensation amount. But she just overlooked us and casually directed his personal assistant to look into my grievances. But I am still waiting," he said wiping his eyes with his right hand which still bears the scars of wounds received that fateful day three years ago... "Had these politicians lost their loved ones in the blast, they would have realised the pain and apathy. These senseless people only know about playing politics"...
