Sheffield,UK -The Star, by Nick Ward -10 March 2009: -- A young Sheffield mum was kicked off the bus with her two toddlers and forced to walk a mile in the freezing cold... because her one-year-old son accidentally rang the bell... Mum Cheryl Lee caught the number 47 bus at Castle Market in the city centre with her two children - Grace, aged two, and Joshua, one - to visit a friend in Newfield Green... First business development director and deputy managing director Brandon Jones said: "The concerns raised by Cheryl are currently being investigated and I have expressed my apologies directly for the inconvenience caused... "Although use of the bell when not required is a frustration for other customers as well as the driver, incidents such as this reflect badly on the majority of drivers who do a good job."... Family Furious After Man With Cerebral Palsy Was Left Alone In Frigid Brooklyn Yard For 19 Hours
New York,NY,USA -CBS, by Sean Hennessey ― Jan 2, 2009: -- On Thursday night police charged a 51-year-old woman for allegedly leaving a mentally and physically challenged man -- overnight -- on a bus for 19 hours... Ed Rivera, who has cerebral palsy and the mental capacity of a 2-year-old, survived alone, trapped in a parking lot Wednesday night, as the wind chill hovered near zero... Rivera's New York City family was in disbelief Thursday night following a day of uncertainty. Rivera didn't arrive home Wednesday night. His special needs bus, ironically named Outstanding Transport, should have dropped him in East Harlem, but investigators found him almost a day later -- miles away in a Brooklyn bus yard... Sources tell CBS 2 HD Rivera was strapped in his seat directly behind the driver's seat. How the driver missed him is not known...* Bus Matron Arrested For Abandoning Disabled Man on BusNY,USA -Gothamist -3 Jan 2009: -- The bus matron who knowingly left a mentally disabled man on a bus overnight was arrested and fired. Ed Wynn Rivera, who suffers from cerebral palsy and is unable to communicate, was found after 17 hours of sitting in the bus (which was parked at a Brooklyn depot), freezing and still strapped to his seat. And what's more, Rivera had been sitting right behind the driver... Linda Hockaday, who had worked for Outstanding Transport, was charged with reckless endangerment. WCBS 2 reports that sources say... Apparently she thought someone else would notice Rivera!... Lamoin Lawhon of the Corsicana Police Department said it best: “In 31 years in law enforcement I’ve never seen anything like this” Corsicana,TX,USA -The Corsicana Daily Sun, by Bob Belcher -February 15, 2008: -- About 40 former inmates from the Texas Department of Corrections were stranded for more than two hours at a gas station in East Corsicana Thursday evening when the driver of the bus they were on said her allotted driving hours had been used up and left on another bus... The bus was taking the men to the Metroplex where they were supposed to meet their parole officers... Corsicana Police helped by notifying state officials of the situation.
